The Ocean is the largest solar collector and energy storage medium on Earth and the only renewable energy source large enough to supply a significant fraction of total human energy demand. The ocean thermal energy resource can be used to provide the largest supply of accessible hydrogen on the planet. Hydrogen, as a transportable fuel, represents the energy bridge by which these vast ocean resources can be utilized by civilization into the next Millennium.

Each day, the solar radiation incident upon, and absorbed by, the tropical ocean is significantly more than 1000 times the current global energy consumption over the same 24-hour period. Thus, even anticipating the eventual industrialization of the rest of the planet, we will never likely consume more energy than the natural daily fluctuation of this enormous thermal resource, thereby ensuring an environmentally-friendly, sustainable energy economy for all peoples for many generations to come.

It is the enormity of this resource - and its potential contribution to human civilization - which has driven OCEES International, Inc. and its strategic partners to pursue the commercialization of the integrated OTEC systems technology. Now, due to diligent efforts of several scientists and engineers (many of whom work for OCEES or it's corporate partners) and several independent research organizations, Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (or OTEC as it is more commonly referred) and its integrated systems technologies are now a technically viable and economically attractive and environmentally sustainable, renewable energy alternative to conventional fossil fuel-based power systems.

As Humankind’s energy base gradually shifts from complex, environmentally devastating, hydrocarbons, drawn from the caverns of the earth’s crust, to hydrogen, extracted from the thermal energy stored in the tropical ocean, civilization’s emission of carbon, sulfur and nitrogen compounds into the atmosphere will be greatly reduced. We will use a fuel that is clean and abundant, the ignition of which produces water as exhaust, whose extraction energy is inexhaustible as long as the tides rise and fall, winds blow over the ocean, and the sun shines on the tropical seas.

Ocean energy-based hydrogen production would take advantage of two thriving sectors of the offshore oil and gas industry: oil tanker transport, and floating platforms. Construction, operation and maintenance of the ocean-based plants would benefit from this industry’s growing experience with both fixed and floating platforms in increasingly deeper waters. Transportation and distribution of hydrogen fuel would utilize much the same shore-based petroleum and natural gas infrastructure.

Most importantly, we will greatly slow the extraction of hydrocarbon resources that required millennia to form and are virtually non-renewable. Fossil fuels are far too valuable as a finite resource for the industrial materials needed by future generations to simply burn in an instant of human time.

A confluence of economic, environmental, and technological conditions make this the right time to begin building integrated OTEC systems to serve select tropical island and near-shore based ocean communities providing them with clean power, pure water, plentiful food, and abundant hydrogen. We have assembled a world class team of individuals and companies to design, construct, and operate these multi-product OTEC systems. Two decades of research and development have brought us to the point where we can pursue this exciting and environmentally sustainable technology with confidence.

OTEC's time has come. OCEES International, Inc., aligned with its strategic partners, is the world's leader in OTEC systems technology with enforceable patents and practical, real world, experience in ALL phases of integrated OTEC systems development: design, deployment, operation, and maintenance.
